GILBOA

An antique farm cottage and Revolutionary War-era barn set on 14 acres in the Northern Catskills.

Endearingly known as “Honey Farm,” this petite cottage was our first true restoration project. Started in the fall of 2021, most of the work was done during the stretch of cold Catskills winter months. Honey Farm taught us how to be resourceful and roll with the punches when restoration does not go as smoothly as planned. We tore down walls, pulled up rotting subfloors, porch floors and clapboard siding, found lots of mice, redid the plumbing system, and then started having fun. Honey Farm got its name because, as the story goes, the original owner in the early 20th C was a beekeeper who sold his honey and maple syrup to tourists off the front porch. Our restoration of the cottage was inspired and guided by its history. We were even lucky enough to find some of his original folk crafts he whittled in the garage. By early spring of 2022 we finished our work and went on to operate the property as a successful and beloved short term rental.
