POUGHKEEPSIE

A stately Second Empire Victorian standing at the entrance to Poughkeepsie’s prestigious Southside Historic District.

We moved into this historic brick beauty at the end of 2022 after the unexpected sale of the Delhi property. It is protected within Poughkeepsie’s historic district so luckily its handsome facade, porches and slate Mansard roof had been preserved. The previous owner had used it as a rental property for a few decades, though, so the interior felt generic and very out of place and had been painted in all sorts of unfortunate shades. We had all intentions of making this our family home for a while to come. With lots of space to spread out, the downstairs living and dining rooms were made into Tim’s state of the art music studio and we began giving the rest of the house a facelift. But we soon realized a music studio inside a house, especially with a baby, was not going to work well in the long term… So after only about a year and a half in this dreamy Victorian, we sold it for a new old property with a conveniently detached garage that would make a much more suitable studio.
